This morning, on his return from Portugal for World Youth Day, as is customary at the end of each Apostolic Journey, Pope Francis went to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, pausing in prayer before the icon of the Virgin Salus Populi Romani. At the end of his visit, he then returned to the Vatican.
