Appointment of bishop of Chioggia, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Michele Di Tolve, hitherto titular of Orrea and auxiliary of Rome, as bishop of Chioggia, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Michele Di Tolve was born on 19 May 1963 in Milan, in the province and archdiocese of the same name. He was ordained a priest on 10 June 1989.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the parish of Santi Gervaso e Protaso in Novate Milanese (1989-1996); parish vicar of the parish of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice in Cassina De’ Pecchi and head of youth pastoral ministry of the parish of Sant’Agata V.M. in Sant’Agata Martesana, Cassina De’ Pecchi (1996-2007); head of the Service for the Teaching of the Catholic Religion and the Service for the Pastoral Care of Schools (2007-2014); delegate of the Supreme Moderator of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences in Milan (2008-2014); rector of the Archiepiscopal Seminary of Milan and rector of the four-year theological programme (2014-2020); honorary major canon of the Metropolitan Basilica (since 2015); parish priest of the parishes of San Giovanni Battista in Rho and of Sant’Ambrogio ad Nemus in Passirana di Rho (since 2020).

He was elected titular bishop of Orrea and auxiliary of Rome on 26 May 2023, receiving episcopal consecration the following 2 September.

As auxiliary bishop he has held the following offices: episcopal vicar and coordinator for the care of the diaconate, the clergy, religious life and the ordo virginum; ad interim director of the Office for the Clergy; and rector of the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary.

Within the Episcopal Conference of Lazio, he has served as bishop delegate for education, schools and universities.
