Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of Rabat, Morocco

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. León Dorado, O.M.I., until now apostolic prefect of the Western Sahara, as coadjutor archbishop of Rabat, Morocco.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Mario León Dorado was born on 16 March 1974 in Madrid, Spain. After completing his studies in information technology at the Faculty of Information Sciences in Madrid, he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology from the San Dámaso Faculty of Theology in Madrid.

He gave his first religious vows on 15 September 1996 in the Congregation of Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

He was ordained a priest on 2 June 2001.

He has held the following offices: parish assistant in Jaén, Spain (2000-2004); in 2004 he was sent on mission in the apostolic prefecture of Western Sahara, and went on to serve as apostolic administrator (2009-2013).

Since 2013 he has held the role of apostolic prefect of Western Sahara, and since 2026, apostolic administrator of the archdiocese of Rabat.

The Holy Father has appointed the following as referendaries to the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura: the Reverend Monsignor Matteo Visioli, Lecturer at the Faculty of Canon Law of the Collegium Maximum of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy; the Reverend Priests Davide Cito and Massimo Del Pozzo, full professors at the Faculty of Canon Law of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome; the Reverend Markus Graulich, S.D.B., under-secretary of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts; the Reverend Father Damián Guillermo Astigueta, S.J., Dean of the Faculty of Canon Law of the Collegium Maximum of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
