Resignation and appointment of bishop of Fort-Liberté, Haiti

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Fort-Liberté, Haiti, presented by Bishop Quesnel Alponse, S.M.M.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jean-Pierre Sander Louis-Jean, until now auxiliary of Port-au-Prince, as bishop of Fort-Liberté, Haiti.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Jean-Pierre Sander Louis-Jean was born on 17 Octobeer 1967 in Jérémie, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the Notre-Dame d’Haïti Major Seminary, continuing his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on 17 November 1996, and incardinated into the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince.

After ordination, he held the roles of parish vicar (1997-1999) and parish priest of Saint-Pierre in Pétion-Ville (2007-2016); and head of the Preparatory Course (1999–2003). He was awarded a licentiate in spiritual theology (2005) and a diploma in spiritual counselling from the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality Teresianum (2007), and went on to serve as spiritual director (2009–2012 and 2014–2020), spiritual mentor (2012–2014) and lecturer in spiritual theology (2012–2020) at the Notre-Dame d’Haïti Major Seminary; since 2020, parish priest of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Cathedral in Port-au-Prince and chair of the Diocesan Commission for Catechesis and Liturgy.

He was appointed titular bishop of Privata and auxiliary bishop of Port-au-Prince on 31 May 2024, receiving episcopal consecration on 3 August of the same year.
