The Holy Father has appointed H.E. Bishop Christian Würtz, until now Titular Bishop of Germania in Dacia and Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Freiburg im Breisgau, as Bishop of Eichstätt (Germany).

Curriculum Vitae

Bishop Christian Würtz was born on May 31, 1971, in Karlsruhe, in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Freiburg im Breisgau. He earned a degree in Law from Heidelberg University. After entering the Collegium Borromaeum in Freiburg, he studied Philosophy and Theology at the Universities of Freiburg and Würzburg. He subsequently obtained a doctorate in both canon and civil law (utroque iure).

He was ordained a priest on May 14, 2006, and was incardinated into the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Freiburg im Breisgau.

He has held the following positions and completed further studies: Parochial Vicar in Gammertingen (2006–2008). Doctorate in Theology from the University of Freiburg (2011). Pastor of the Vorderes Kinzigtal St. Pirmin pastoral unit (2011–2019). Parish Priest (2011–2019) and Canon of Freiburg Cathedral (2018–2019). Judge at the Metropolitan Tribunal of Freiburg (2013–2019). Pastor of the Freiburg-Mitte pastoral unit and Dean of the city (2018–2019).

On April 26, 2019, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Germania in Dacia and Auxiliary Bishop of Freiburg im Breisgau, and received episcopal ordination on June 30, 2019.

He is a member of the Pastoral Commission and the Commission for Charitable Affairs.

Until now, he has served as Rector of the Collegium Borromaeum Major Seminary in Freiburg and Episcopal Vicar for Higher Education.
