Resignation and Appointment of the Bishop of Zacatecoluca (El Salvador)

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Zacatecoluca (El Salvador) submitted by His Excellency Bishop Elías Samuel Bolaños Avelar, S.D.B.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Ramiro Ernesto Landaverde Orellana, until now Pastor of the Parish of the Immaculate Conception in Nueva Concepción, as Bishop of the Diocese of Zacatecoluca.

Curriculum Vitae

The Bishop-elect Ramiro Ernesto Landaverde Orellana was born on May 18, 1976, in Chalatenango, El Salvador. After studying Philosophy and Theology at the San José de la Montaña Seminary in El Salvador, he earned a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, Spain.

He was ordained to the priesthood on February 1, 2003, and was incardinated into the Diocese of Chalatenango.

He has held the following positions: Pastor of Santiago Apóstol Parish (2004–2006 and 2009–2015);Pastor of the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista (2015–2016); Parochial Vicar of Dulce Nombre de María Parish (2017); Spiritual Director of the San José de la Montaña Seminary; Pastor of the Immaculate Conception Parish (since 2024); Diocesan Coordinator for Catechesis (2001–2006); Vicar Forane (Dean) (2010–2014 and since 2024); Member of the Diocesan Council (2003–2014); Member of the Presbyteral Council (since 2015); Coordinator of the Prophetic Ministry (2024–2025).
