Appointment of the Military Ordinary for Australia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Monsignor Stuart Russell Hall, of the clergy of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Melbourne and Dean of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, as Military Ordinary for Australia.

His Excellency Monsignor Stuart Russell Hall was born on August 21, 1962, in Melbourne. After studying at Corpus Christi College in Clayton, he earned a Bachelor of Theology from the Catholic Theological College in Melbourne.

He was ordained a priest on September 19, 1987, and incardinated into the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Melbourne.

He has held the following positions: Assistant Pastor in Hastings, Essendon, Frankston, and Preston; Chaplain in the Royal Australian Navy; and Pastor in East Malvern (1994–2016).

Since 2022, he has served as Dean of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne.
