Credential Letters of the Ambassador of Türkiye to the Holy See, 11.04.2026
This morning, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Leo XIV received in audience His Excellency Mr. Fahrettin Altun, Ambassador of Türkiye to the Holy See, on the occasion of the presentation of his credential letters.
The following is a brief biography of the new Ambassador:
His Excellency Mr. Fahrettin ALTUN
Ambassador of Türkiye to the Holy See
His Excellency Mr. Fahrettin Altun was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on 11 September 1976. He is married with four children.
He graduated in sociology from the University of Istanbul (1998), and holds a master’s degree in sociology from Mimar Sinan University and a doctorate from the University of Istanbul.
He has held the following offices: head of the Department of Communications, İstanbul Şehir University (2008–2014) - professor, İstanbul Medeniyet University (2015–2017) - deputy general coordinator, The Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA) (2014–2018) - professor, İstanbul Şehir University - head of Department, İstanbul Medeniyet University - dean of the Faculty of Communications, İbn Haldun University - head of Communications at the Presidency of the Republic (2018–2025) - president of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (2025–2026).
