Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Natal, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend José Silvio de Brito, until now vicar general and parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the archdiocese of Natal, Brazil, as auxiliary bishop of the same metropolitan archdiocese, assigning him the titular see of Menefessi.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. José Silvio de Brito was born on 26 December 1970 in Cruzeta, in the diocese of Calcó, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. He studied philosophy and theology at the Seminário de São Pedro in Natal.

He was ordained a priest on 30 June 2000, and incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Natal.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar in São Paulo do Potengi (2000-2002); parish administrator (2002-2006) and parish priest (2006-2010) of Santo Antônio de Pádua in Natal; parish priest of Santa Maria Mãe in Natal (2010-2019); archdiocesan master of ceremonies (since 2012); parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Ceará-Mirim (2019-2020); parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro in Quintas (2020-2023); episcopal vicar for the clergy (2020-2024); parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Macaíba (since 2023) and vicar general (since 2024); member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council, and coordinator of the Sector for the Laity.
