Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Sri Lanka

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Andrzej Józwowicz, titular of Lauriacum, hitherto apostolic nuncio in Iran, as apostolic nuncio in Sri Lanka.

 

Resignation and succession of bishop of La Paz en la Baja California Sur, Mexico

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of La Paz en la Baja California Sur, Mexico, presented by Bishop Miguel Ángel Alba Díaz.

He is succeeded by Bishop Miguel Ángel Espinoza Garza, hitherto coadjutor bishop of the same diocese.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Udupi, India

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Udupi, India, presented by Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Leslie Clifford D’Souza, until now parish priest of Our Lady of Health in Udupi, as bishop of the diocese of Udupi, India.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza was born on 19 August 1962 in Yermal, in the diocese of Udupi, Karnataka. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Distant Education) from Mysore University. After studying philosophy at Saint Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary in Mangalore and theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University of Rome, he was awarded a licentiate and a doctorate in moral theology from the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium.

He was ordained a priest on 10 May 1990. He was incardinated in the diocese of Mangalore and subsequently that of Udupi.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Holy Rosary, Kundapur, Udupi (1990-1992), deputy parish priest of Holy Cross, Kulshekar, Mangalore (1992-1995); professor of moral theology at Saint Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary in Mangalore (2003-2010), parish priest of Saint John the Evangelist, Pangala (2010-2017), parish priest of Our Lady of the Rosary, Kallianpur (2017-2023), parish priest of Our Lady of Health, Shirva, and dean of the deanery of Shirva (since 2023).

He is a member of the diocesan Presbyteral Council, and a lawyer at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal.

 

Appointment of apostolic exarch of the territorial abbey of Saint Mary of Grottaferrata, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Manuel Nin Güell, O.S.B., titular of Carcabia, as apostolic exarch of the territorial abbey of Saint Mary of Grottaferrata, Italy, transferring him from the apostolic exarchate for Catholics of Byzantine rite resident in Greece.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Manuel Nin Güell, O.S.B., was born on 20 August 1956 in El Vendrell, in the archdiocese of Tarragona, Spain. He entered the Benedictine Monastery of Monserrat, where he gave his first vows on 26 April 1977, and his solemn monastic profession in 1980. He was ordained a priest on 18 April 1998.

After ordination, he graduated in theology in Rome, and held the office of rector of the Pontifical Greek College in Rome (1999-2016).

On 2 February 2016 he was appointed apostolic exarch for Catholics of Byzantine rite resident in Greece, receiving episcopal ordination the following 15 April, with the title of Carcabia.
