The Representatives of the Roman Curia and the German Bishops’ Conference gathered again today (12 November 2025) to continue the dialogue agreed upon during the ad limina visit of the German bishops in November 2022. The previous meetings took place on 26 July 2023, 22 March 2024 and 28 June 2024.

The dialogue was again characterized by a sincere, open and constructive atmosphere. Various points of the future statute of a synodal body of the Church in Germany (entitled the ‘Synodal Conference’) were examined, such as its nature, composition and competences.

Representing the Roman Curia were Cardinals Victor Fernández, Kurt Koch, Pietro Parolin and Arthur Roche, and Archbishop Filippo Iannone O. Carm. Representing the German Bishops’ Conference were Bishops Stephan Ackermann, Georg Bätzing, Bertram Meier, Franz-Josef Overbeck, as well as the Secretary General, Dr. Beate Gilles, and the CET Spokesperson, Dr. Matthias Kopp. His Excellency Bishop Stefan Oster was present as a guest.
