The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Lages, Brazil, presented by Bishop Guilherme Antônio Werlang, M.S.F.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Gilson Meurer, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Florianópolis, until now rector of the Convívio Emaús Theology Seminary of the same archdiocese, as bishop of the diocese of Lages, Brazil.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Gilson Meurer was born on 28 September 1973 in Florianópolis, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the same name, in the State of Santa Catarina.
After studying philosophy at the Fundação Educacional de Brusque-SC and theology at the Instituto Teológico de Santa Catarina in Florianópolis-SC, he was awarded a licentiate in biblical exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome, and a doctorate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 8 December 2002 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Florianópolis.
He has held the following offices: assistant formator in the minor and preparatory seminary in Brusque-SC (2003-2004), parish vicar of the shrine of Nossa Senhora de Azambuja in Brusque-SC (2003-2004), defender of the bond and promoter of justice of the Regional Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Florianópolis-SC (2003-2005), collaborator in the parish of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo in Alluminere, diocese of Civitavecchia (2009-2013), collaborator in the parish of Santi Giovanni Battista e Leonardo in Tarquinia, diocese of Civitavecchia (2014-2016), professor at the Instituto Teológico de Santa Catarina in Florianópolis-SC (since 2016) and in the preparatory seminary (since 2020), parish priest of Santa Cruz in São José-SC (2016-2017) and of Nossa Senhora da Glória in Florianópolis-SC (2018-2021), member of the Presbyteral Council (since 2023) and member of the College of Consultors (since 2024).
To date, he has served as rector of the Convívio Emaús Theology Seminary in Florianópolis-SC.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Santos, Brazil, presented by Bishop Tarcísio Scaramussa, S.D.B. He is succeeded by Bishop Joaquim Giovani Mol Guimarães, until now coadjutor bishop of the same diocese.
