Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Nueva Segovia, Philippines

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Nueva Segovia presented by Archbishop Marlo M. Peralta.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop David William V. Antonio as metropolitan archbishop of Nueva Segovia, Philippines, transferring him from the diocese of Ilagan.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect David William V. Antonio was born on 29 December 1963 in Nagtucapan, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur. After studying philosophy at the San Pablo Seminary in Baguio City, and theology at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City, he attended the Catholic University of America in Washington, where he was awarded a doctorate in theology.

He was ordained a priest on 1 December 1988 for the archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.

He has held the following offices: professor, dean of studies and then rector of the Immaculate Conception School of Theology Seminary, Vigan, Ilocos Sur; parish priest of Santa Lucia in Ilocos Sur, and subsequently vicar general of the archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.

On 15 June 2011 he was appointed titular bishop of Basti and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, receiving episcopal ordination the following 26 August; on 21 November 2015 he was appointed apostolic administrator sede plena of the apostolic vicariate of San Jose in Mindoro, Philippines, and on 14 November 2018 he was appointed bishop of Ilagan.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Pedro Orlando Castro Castro, O.F.M., until now provincial vicar of the Franciscan Province of the Twelve Apostles and parish vicar of Santa María de Jesús, diocese of Carabayllo, as bishop vicar apostolic coadjutor of San Ramón, Peru

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Pedro Orlando Castro Castro, O.F.M., was born on 28 June 1961 in Lima. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology at the Pontifical and Civil Faculty of Theology in Lima, where he was awarded a doctorate in sacred theology. He subsequently attended the Universidad Ricardo Palma in Lima, obtaining a master’s degree in political sciences, and the Pontifical “Antonianum” University of Rome, obtaining a licentiate in canon law.

He gave his solemn vows on 29 June 1993, and was ordained a priest on 29 June 1995.

He has held the following offices: parish priest and guardian of the Community in Ilo-Moquegua (1997-1999), provincial definitor and formator of theology students (2000-2002), collaborator in the parish of Santissimo Nombre de Jesús, Lima (2003-2007), guardian of the San José Obrero Convent and master of postulants, Arequipa (2009-2011), guardian of the Community, parish priest of San José de Pichcus and professor of philosophy and theology, San Pio X Major Seminary, archdiocese of Huancayo (2013-2015), definitor and provincial secretary (2021-2023), and since 2024, provincial vicar of the Franciscan Province of the Twelve Apostoles and parish vicar of Santa María de Jesús, diocese of Carabayllo.
