Appointment of auxiliary bishop of San Antonio, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Arturo Cepeda, titular of Tagase, until now auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Detroit, United States of America, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of San Antonio, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop José Arturo Cepeda was born on 15 May 1969 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. After carrying out his studies in philosophy at the minor seminary in San Luis Potosí, he was awarded a bachelor’s degree from the College of Santa Fe, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and undertook his theological studies at the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas, United States of America. He subsequently obtained a licentiate and a doctorate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 1 June 1996 for the archdiocese of San Antonio.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of San Fernando Cathedral (1996-2000), vocational director and faculty member of the Assumption Seminary and the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio (2000-2010), and rector of the Assumption Seminary (2010-2011).

He was appointed titular bishop of Tagase and auxiliary of Detroit on 18 April 2011, and received episcopal consecration the following 5 May.
