Confirmation of election of Custos of the Holy Land

The Holy Father has confirmed the election of the Reverend Fr. Francesco Ielpo, O.F.M., as Custos of the Holy Land and Guardian of Mount Zion, by the Minister General of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor with his Definitory.

Curriculum vitae

Fr. Francesco Ielpo, of Italian nationality, was born in Lauria (PZ) on 18 May 1970. He gave his solemn vows in the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor in 1998; in 2000 he was ordained a priest.

He has held the following offices: teacher of religion (1994-2010), rector of the Luzzago Franciscanum Institute in Brescia (since 2000), member of the national council of the FIDAE (Federation of Institutes of Educational Activities) (2006-2010), provincial definitor of the Lombard province (2007-2010), and parish priest of Sant’Antonio di Padova in Varese (2010-2013). From September 2013 to 2016 he was Commissioner of the Holy Land of Lombardy, continuing his term of office from 2016 to 2023 for the province of Northern Italy. Since 2014 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Pro Terra Sancta Association. Since 2022 he has been president of the Holy Land Foundation, delegate of the Custos of the Holy Land for Italy, and general delegate for the restructuring of the provinces in Campania, Basilicata and Calabria.

Cap., of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania; Archbishop Jerzy Maculewicz, O.F.M. Conv., apostolic administrator of Uzbekistan; Bishop Julio César Salcedo Aquino, M.J., of Tlaxcala, Mexico; Bishop Thulani Victor Mbuyisa, C.M.M., of Kokstad, South Africa; Bishop Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie, M.C.C.J., auxiliary of the archeparchy of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; the Reverend Fathers Stanley Lubungo, superior general of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and Miguel Márquez Calle, prepositor general of the Descalced Carmelites; the Reverend Father Donato Ogliari, O.S.B., abbot of the Monastery of Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls in Rome, Italy; the Reverend Brother Armin Altamirano Luistro, superior general of the Brothers of the Christian Schools; the Reverend Mothers Chiara Cazzuola, superior general of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Salesians of Don Bosco; Françoise Petit, superior general of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent De Paul; Maria Goretti Lee, superior general of the Hospitaller Sisters of Saint Paul; Idilia Maria Moreira Gonçalves Carneiro, superior general of the Hospitaller Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; and the distinguished Ms. Luisa Muston, president general of the Secular Institute of the Missionaries of the Sick “Christ the Hope”.
