Resignation and appointment of bishop of Pittsburgh, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Pittsburgh, United States of America, presented by Bishop David A. Zubik.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Mark A. Eckman, until now titular bishop of Sitifis and auxiliary of Pittsburgh, United States of America, as bishop of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Mark A. Eckman was born on 9 February 1959 in Pittsburgh, in the diocese of the same name. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at Saint Paul Seminary, obtaining a bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and a Master of Divinity from Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

He was ordained a priest on 11 May 1985 for the diocese of Pittsburgh.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Resurrection (1985-1990), Saint Sebastian in Pittsburgh (1990-1991), Saint Valentine in Bethel Park (1991-1992), Saint Winifred in Pittsburgh (1992-1994) and Saint John Vianney (1994-1998); chaplain of Seton-LaSalle Catholic High School (1992-1998) and DePaul School for Hearing and Speech (1996-1998), parish priest of Saint Sylvester (1998-2009), Saint Norbert (2006-2009), Saint Thomas More (2009-2013) and Resurrection (since 2021); administrator of Saint Norbert (2005-2006), Epiphany (2017-2018), Saint John Capistran in Pittsburgh (2020-2021) and Saint Thomas More (2020-2021); and vicar for the clergy (2013-2020).

He was appointed titular bishop of Sitifis and auxiliary of Pittsburgh on 5 November 2021, and received episcopal consecration on 11 January 2022.
