Resignation and appointment of bishop of Córdoba, Spain
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Córdoba, Spain, presented by Bishop Demetrio Fernández González.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jesús Fernández González of the diocese of Astorga as bishop of Córdoba, Spain.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Jesús Fernández González was born on 15 September 1955 in Selga de Ordán, Lèon. He was awarded a licentiate in psychology from the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca.
He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1980 in the diocese of Léon.
He has held the following offices: bursar of Senra and Lazado, and in charge of five other towns (1980-1982); formator, professor and rector of the minor seminary (1987-1990); full professor of the Higher Centre of Theological Studies; formator of San Froilán Major Seminary (1997-2003), parish priest of Cuadros and parish administrator of Valsemana (1997-2003); episcopal vicar and vicar for the pastoral care of the clergy (2003-2010); vicar general of Léon, moderator of the Curia and consultant of the Pastoral Commission of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (2010-2013).
On 9 November 2013 he was appointed titular bishop of Rotdon and auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, receiving episcopal consecration the following 8 February.
From 8 June 2020 to the present, he has served as bishop of Astorga, Spain.
