The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the apostolic exarchate for Ukrainian Catholic faithful of Byzantine rite resident in Italy, presented by Bishop Paulo Dionisio Lachovicz, O.S.B.M., and has appointed Bishop Hryhoriy Komar, until now auxiliary bishop of the eparchy of Sambir-Drohobych, Ukraine, as apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same exarchate.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Hryhoriy Komar was born on 19 June 1976 in Ukraine, in Letnya, in the eparchy of Sambir-Drohobych.
He attended the major seminary of Ivano-Frankivsk, and was ordained a priest in the eparchy of Sambir-Drohobych on 22 April 2001.
After ordination, he first served as collaborator in the major seminary of Ivano-Frankivsk and pastoral cooperator of the Most Holy Trinity in the same city. He was awarded a licentiate in Oriental ecclesiastical sciences from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome (2003), and went on to hold the roles of vice rector, bursar and lecturer in the major seminary of Sambir-Drohobych, collaborating at the same time with various parishes in Stebnyk and Drohobych.
In March 2012 he was appointed protosyncellus of the eparchy.
On 25 June 2014 he was elected auxiliary bishop of the eparchy of Sambir-Drohobych and, with pontifical assent, was assigned the titular see of Acci; he received episcopal ordination the following 22 August in the Cathedral of Sambir-Drohobych.
Erection of the diocese of Bagamoyo, Tanzania, and appointment of first bishop
The Holy Father has erected the new diocese of Bagamoyo, Tanzania, with territory taken from the metropolitan archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam and the diocese of Morogoro, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan see of Dar-es-Salaam.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Stephano Lameck Musomba, O.S.A., until now titular bishop of Perdices and auxiliary of Dar-es-Salaam, as first bishop of the newly-erected diocese.

Bishop Stephano Lameck Musomba, O.S.A., was born on 25 September 1969 in the village of Malonji, metropolitan archdiocese of Mbeya. He studied philosophy and theology at the Jordan University of Morogoro and was awarded a licentiate in patrology from the Augustinianum Patristic Institute in Rome.
He entered the Order of Saint Augustine and received priestly ordination on 24 July 2003.
He has held the following offices: parish assistant (2003-2004 and 2014-2016) and parish priest (2018-2021) of Immaculate Conception in Mavurunza in Dar-es-Salaam; formator in the House of Formation of the Order in Morogoro (2008-2009 and 2016-2018); lecturer in the Faculty of Theology of Jordan University in Morogoro (2008-2009); parish priest of Saint Augustine in Ternboni in Dar-es-Salaam (2009-2014); and prior of the Community of Saint Monica (2018-2021).
He was appointed titular bishop of Perdices and auxiliary of Dar-es-Salaam on 7 July 2021, and received episcopal consecration the following 21 September.
Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Korhogo, Cote d’Ivoire
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Armand Koné, until now delegate vicar of the archdiocese of Korhogo, Cote d’Ivoire, as metropolitan archbishop of the same see.

Msgr. Armand Koné was born on 29 July 1969 in Kouto, Cote d’Ivoire. After studying philosophy at the Grand Séminaire Saint Pierre de Daloa, he carried out his studies in theology at the Grand Séminaire National Saint Coeur de Marie d’Anyama.
He was ordained a priest on 11 October 2008.
He has held the following offices: vicar of the Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Korhogo (2008-2009); parish priest of Immaculée Conception, Guiembé (2009-2010); head of vocational pastoral care and chaplain of Animation Rurale, Korhogo (2009-2012); military chaplain (2009-2013); parish priest of Sainte Odile, Sinématiali (2010-2012); vicar general of Korhogo (2010-2013); parish priest of Saint Michel Archange, Dikodougou (2012-2013); parish priest of Chaource, diocese of Troyes, France (2014-2020), vicar forane of Bandama Urbain (2020-2022); parish priest of Notre Dame des Victoires, Korhogo (since 2020); vicar general of the metropolitan archdiocese of Korhogo (since 2022); and vicar delegate of Korhogo (since 2024).

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Júlio Endi Akamine, S.A.C., until now metropolitan archbishop of Sorocaba, Brazil, as coadjutor archbishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Belém do Pará, Brazil.

Archbishop Júlio Endi Akamine, S.A.C., was born on 30 November 1962 in Garça, diocese of Marília, in the State of São Paulo.
He attended the São Vicente Pallotti Minor Seminary of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines) in Londrina, PR.
He gave his religious vows in 1980. He studied philosophy at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná in Curitiba and theology at the Studium Teologicum Claretianum. He was awarded a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He received priestly ordination on 24 January 1988.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar (1988-1990) and parish priest (1990-1993) of Santo Antônio in Cambé, metropolitan archdiocese of Londrina; rector of the Pallottine Major Seminary in Curitiba (1996-2001); assessor of the Organization of Seminaries and Institutes of Brazil – O.S.I.B. of the Sul 2 Region (1996-1998); member of the Regional Secretariat for the Formation of Pallottines (1999-2005); consultor of the General House of the Pallottines in. Rome (2001-2003); director of the Propaedeutic Stage of the Regina Apostolorumi Pallottine Province in Grottaferrata (2003-2004); provincial secretary for formation 2005-2007); spiritual director of the Major Seminary of the Pallottines in Curitiba (2006-2007); provincial superior of the São Paulo Apóstolo Province based in São Paulo (2008-2011); professor of theology in the Studium Teologicum Claretianum in Curitiba.
On 4 May 2011 he was elected titular bishop of Tagamuta and auxiliary of the archdiocese of São Paulo, and received episcopal ordination the following 9 July.
On 28 December 2016 he was appointed metropolitan archbishop of Sorocaba.
He is currently president of the Sul 1 Region of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.

Professor Meng Anming was born on 22 July 1963 in Dazhu County, People’s Republic of China. He was awarded a degree in agronomy from the Southwest Agricultural University and a doctorate in genetics from the University of Nottingham. He is professor of developmental biology at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and the author of numerous publications.
Professor Luis Fernando Larrondo Castro was born on 30 June 1973 in Santiago de Chile, Chile. He was awarded a doctorate in cellular and molecular biology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He is a professor in the Departamento de Genética Molecular y Microbiología of the Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas at the same university, and director of the Millennium Institute for Integrative Biology (iBio). He has received numerous honours and awards, including Aschoff’s Rule in 2017.
Professor Cecilia Tortajada was born on 9 August 1962 in Nayarit, Mexico. She was awarded a doctorate in philosophy and technology from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. She is a senior research fellow at the Institute of Water Policy of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. She received the Crystal Drop Award in 2021 and is the author of numerous publications.
Professor Maria T. Zuber was born on 27 June 1958 in Norristown, Pennsylvania, United States of America. She was awarded a doctorate in geophysics from Brown University, Providence. She is E.A. Griswold Professor of Geophysics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. She has participated in various NASA planetary missions, receiving several honours and awards, including the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement in 2022. She is the author of numerous publications.
Professor Olivier Pourquié was born on 1 September 1964 in Angoulême, France. He was awarded a doctorate in general microbiology from the University of Paris VII. He is professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School and professor of pathology and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He has received several honours and awards, including the Science Prize of the Gulbenkian Foundation, and is the author of numerous publications.
