Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Francisco González González, until now bishop of Campeche, as metropolitan archbishop of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop José Francisco González González was born in Yahualica, diocese of San Juan de Los Lagos, on 17 March 1966. He was ordained a priest for the metropolitan archdiocese of Guadalajara on 4 June 1995. He obtained a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome and in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

After working in priestly formation and in the field of canon law, on 14 February 2008 he was elected titular bishop of Feradi Maius and auxiliary of Guadalajara, receiving episcopal ordination the following 10 April. On 12 February 2014 he was appointed bishop of Campeche.

 

Appointment of bishop of Armidale, Australia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Peter Mel Murphy, until now vicar general of the diocese of Wagga Wagga, as bishop of the diocese of Armidale, Australia.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Peter Mel Murphy was born on 28 June 1961 in Benalla, Victoria, in the diocese of Sandhurst.

He was ordained a priest on 11 July 1992 for the diocese of Wagga Wagga.

After ordination, he held the roles of professor at the seminary of Wagga Wagga (1992-2000), parish vicar in South Wagga (1992-1994), vice rector of the seminary of Wagga Wagga (1994-1997), and parish priest in Lockhart (1997-2000). He studied in Rome and served at the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (2000-2002), and went on to hold the offices of parish priest in Tumbarumba (2002-2007), teacher at the seminary of Wagga Wagga (since 2002), parish priest in Albury-Lavington (since 2007), member of the College of Consultors, member of the Personnel Board, dean of the deanery of Murray and chair of the Presbyteral Council (since 2021), vicar general, member of the diocesan Council for Ecoomic Affairs and the diocesan Committee for Safeguarding (since 2022). In addition, in 2022, he participated in the Fifth Plenary Council of the Catholic Church in Australia. He has also been diocesan director for vocations and youth, chaplain at Charles Stuart University in Wagga Wagga, and lecturer at the Pontifical “John Paul II” Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Science in Melbourne.

 

Appointment of bishop prelate of Jesús María, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Andrés Sáinz Márquez, of the clergy of the diocese of San Juan de los Lagos, until now parish administrator of Santa Maria Traspontina.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Sáinz Márquez was born in Arandas, diocese of San Juan de los Lagos, on 16 August 1969. He studied at the seminary of San Juan de los Lagos and was ordained a priest on 27 April 1996, and incardinated in the diocese of San Juan de los Lagos.

He was awarded a licentiate in psychology from the Universidad del Valle de Atejamac in Guadalajara.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar, parish administrator, parish priest of various communities, and dean. He is currently parish administrator of Santa Maria Traspontina.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Tabora, Tanzania

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Josaphat Jackson Bududu, of the metropolitan archdiocese of Tabora, Tanzania, until now vicar for consecrated life and parish priest of Saint Joseph in Kipalapala, as auxiliary bishop of the same archdiocese, assigning him the titular see of Vegesela di Numidia.

Msgr. Josaphat Jackson Bududu was born on 6 March 1977 in Kaliua, Tabora.

He studied philosophy at the major seminary of Kibosho, Moshi, and theology at the major seminary of Kipalapala, Tabora. He was awarded a doctorate in spirituality at the Tamil Nadu Institute of Spirituality and Saint Peter’s Pontifical Institute in Bangalore, India.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest (2009-2011) and parish priest (2015-2018) of Saint Therese in Tabora.

Since 2019, he has served as formator at Archbishop Mario Mgulunde Propaedeutic Seminary in Kipalapala, professor at Saint Paul’s Senior Seminary in Kipalapala, parish priest of Saint Joseph in Kipalapala, spiritual director of the Religious Congregation of the Daughters of Mary Sisters in Tabora and vicar for consecrated life of the metropolitan archdiocese of Tabora.
