Resignation and appointment of bishop of Baie-Comeau, Canada

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Baie-Comeau, Canada, presented by Bishop Jean-Pierre Blais.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Pierre Charland, O.F.M., until now provincial minister of the Franciscans, Province of Canada, as bishop of Baie-Comeau, Canada.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Pierre Charland was born in North Bay, Ontario, in 1964. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, specializing in psychology, at the University of Ottawa, and studied at the Dominican College of Philosophy and Theology in Ottawa.

He was awarded a degree in theology from the Faculty of Theology of the Université de Montréal.

He has held the following offices: lecturer in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences of the Université de Montréal and at the Pastoral Institute of the Dominicans of Montréal.

In 2018, following the union of the two Franciscan provinces of Canada, Msgr. Charland was elected first provincial of the new Province of the Holy Spirit.
