Extension of the approval of the election of the dean and vice dean of the College of Cardinals

On 7 January 2025, His Holiness Francis extended his approval granted to the election of His Eminence Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re as dean of the College of Cardinals.

Furthermore, on 14 January 2025, the Holy Father extended his approval granted to the election of His Eminence Cardinal Leonardo Sandri as vice dean of the same College.

 

Promotion to the Order of Bishops of His Eminence Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A.

The Holy Father has co-opted His Eminence Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, into the Order of Bishops, assigning him the Title of the Suburbicarian Church of Albano.

 

Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Pisa, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Pisa, Italy, presented by Archbishop Giovanni Paolo Benotto.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Saverio Cannistrà, O.C.D., former prepositor general of the Descalced Carmelintes and until now parish vicar of San Pancrazio in Rome, as metropolitan archbishop of Pisa, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Saverio Cannistrà, O.C.D., was born in Catanzaro on 3 October 1958. After graduating in Romance philology from the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, he worked as an editor at a publishing house. On 17 September 1985 he entered the novitiate of the Italian province of Tuscany of the Order of Descalced Carmelites and gave his religious vows on 14 September 1990. On 24 October 1992 he was ordained a priest.

He was awarded a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1998) and went on to serve as a lecturer in Trinitarian theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty and Institute of Spirituality “Teresianum” in Rome (1995-2003), and professor of Christology and theological anthropology at the Theological Faculty of Central Italy in Florence (2003-2009). In 2007 he was elected member of the Council of the Presidency of the Italian Theological Association.

In the Tuscan province of the Descalced Carmelites he has served as provincial counsellor (1996-2002), master of postulants and students (1999-2008), and provincial (since 2008). He has also been prepositor general of the Order of Descalced Carmelites (2009-2021). He is a member of the Presbyteral Council of the metropolitan archdiocese of Florence and is currently parish vicar in the Church of San Pancrazio in Rome.

 

Appointment of bishop of Tenkodogo, Burkina Faso

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend David Koudougou, of the clergy of Tenkodogo, Burkina Faso, until now diocesan administrator of the same diocese, as bishop of the diocese of Tenkodogo.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. David Koudougou was born on 1 August 1972 in Tenkodogo and carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Saint Jean Baptiste de Wayalghin Major Seminary, Ouagadougou.

He was ordained a priest on 14 July 2001.

After ordination, he held the roles of parish vicar of the Sacred Heart, Garango (2001-2002), parish vicar of Boussouma (2002-2006), and professor of canon law and homilectics in the major seminary of Saint Pierre Claver de Koumi (2009-2013). He was awarded a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome (2013-2016), and went on to serve as parish vicar of Saint Paul in Moaga, official of the metropolitan tribunal of Koupèla, member of the College of Consultors of the metropolitan archdiocese of Koupèla, secretary general of the Episcopal Commission for ecclesiastical tribunals and legal affairs of the Episcopal Conference, and episcopal delegate to the Diocesan Council for Catholic Education of the diocese of Tenkodogo (2017-2023).

Since 2023, he has been an official of the ecclesiastical tribunal and member of the College of Consultors of the diocese of Tenkodogo and diocesan administrator of Tenkodogo.

 

Episcopal appointment of adjunct secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Samuele Sangalli, adjunct secretary with responsibility for the administration of the Dicastery for Evangelization in the Section for first evangelization and the new particular Churches, as titular bishop of Zella, conferring to him the personal title of Archbishop.

 

Appointment of members of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Ivan Kovać, under-secretary of the Dicastery for Bishops, and the Reverend Msgr. Simone Renna, under-secretary of the Dicastery for the Clergy, as members of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia.
