Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Chascomús, Argentina
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José María Baliña as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Chascomús, Argentina, assigning him the titular see of Ubaza.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Baliña was born on 8 January 1959 in Buenos Aires and was formed in the Metropolitan Seminary of Buenos Aires.
He was ordained a priest on 25 November 1989. After several years as parish vicar and parish priest in various communities, he was appointed titular bishop of Teudali and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Buenos Aires on 16 January 2015, receiving episcopal ordination on the following 28 February. In the archdiocese of Buenos Aires, he was episcopal vicar for the Central Zone, and within the Argentine Episcopal Conference he is a member of the Pastoral Council for the protection of minors and vulnerable adults.
On 21 November 2023 he was appointed bishop of Mar del Plata, and since the following 13 December he has been emeritus of the same See.
