The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Willemstad, Netherlands Antilles, presented by Bishop Luigi Antonio Secco, S.D.B.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, France, presented by Bishop Dominique Rey. He is succeeded by the coadjutor Bishop François Touvet.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Cesena-Sarsina, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Cesena-Sarsina, Italy, presented by Bishop Douglas Regattieri.

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Antonio Giuseppe Caiazzo as bishop of the diocese of Cesena-Sarsina, Italy, with the ad personam title of Archbishop, transferring him from the archdiocese of Matera-Irsina and the diocese of Tricarico, Italy, until now joined in persona Episcopi.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop Antonio Giuseppe Caiazzo was born on 7 April 1956 in Isola di Capo Rizzuto, Crotone, in the archdiocese of Crotone-Santa Severina. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in theology from the “San Pio X” Calabrian Theological Seminary in Catanzaro, he was awarded a doctorate in sared liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute Saint Anselm in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 10 October 1981 and incardinated in the archdiocese of Crotone-Santa Severina.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santa Caterina da Siena in Rome (1981-1983), member of the Diocesan Commission for Religious Art (1994-2007), episcopal delegate for evangelization (1995-1996), member of the College of Consultors (1996-1999 and 2004-2007), member of the National Council for the Liturgy of the Italian Episcopal Conference (1996-2010), vicar forane (1996-2000), director of the Diocesan Vocations Centre (2005-2006), rector of the Diocesan Minor Seminary (2005-2008), diocesan delegate for seminarians of the Major Seminary (2005-2008), director of the Regional Liturgical Office (1996-2010), director of the diocesan Liturgical Office (1996-2010), parish priest of San Paolo Apostolo in Crotone (1985-2016), counsellor of the Diocesan Institute for the Support of the Clergy (1994-2016), member of the Presbyteral Council (1994-2016), episcopal vicar for the Clergy and Consecrated Life (2012-2016), and lecturer at the Diocesan Institute for Religious Sciences in Crotone and the “San Pio X” Calabrian Theological Seminary in Catanzaro.

He was appointed archbishop of Matera-Irsina on 12 February 2016, and received episcopal consecration the following 2 April. Since 10 February 2023 he has been apostolic administrator of Tricarico and, on 4 March of the same year, he was appointed bishop of the same see, united in persona Episcopi with the archdiocese of Matera-Irsina.

Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Liturgy and chair of the Committee for National Eucharistic Congresses; while, within the Regional Episcopal Conference, he is bishop delegate for Social Problems and Employment, for Catechesis, for the Liturgy, and for Youth Pastoral Care.
