Appointment of bishop of Tarlac, Philippines

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Roberto Calara Mallari as bishop of the diocese of Tarlac, Philippines, transferring him from the diocese of San Jose, Philippines.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Mallari was born on 27 March 1958 in Masantol, Pampanga. After attending the San Carlos Seminary in Makati City, he was awarded a master’s degree in spirituality from the Priests School for Asia in Tagaytay City, subsequently concluding his studies at the School for Priests in Florence, Italy.

He was ordained a priest on 27 November 1982 for the archdiocese of San Fernando.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of San Vicente Ferrer in San Fernando, Pampanga (1982-1983), spiritual director of the Mother of Good Counsel Minor Seminary in San Fernando, Pampanga (1983-1987), parish priest of Immaculate Conception, Las Piñas (1987-1989) director of the Commission on Family and Life SACOP, Pampanga (1994-1997), parish priest of Lord’s Ascension in San Fernando, Pampanga (1998-2006), and executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission on the Family (2000-2006).

On 14 January 2006 he was appointed titular bishop of Erdonia and auxiliary of the diocese of San Fernando, receiving episcopal ordination the following 27 March.

On 15 May 2012 he was appointed bishop of the diocese of San Jose, Philippines.
