Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Yangon, Myanmar
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Raymond Wai Lin Htun, of the clergy of the diocese of Hpa-An, until now professor of canon law and economics and Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Yangon, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Yangon, Myanmar, assigning him the titular see of Thucca in Numidia.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Raymond Wai Lin Htun was born on 22 September 1976 in Hton-Bo-Quay, in the diocese of Hpa-An. He studied philosophy at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Pyin-Oo-Lwin; he then concluded a year of spirituality at Saint Michael’s Major Seminary in Taunggyi, then continuing his studies in theology at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Yangon.
He was ordained a priest on 18 March 2007 for the diocese of Hpa-An.
After ordination, he first held the role of parish vicar of Saint Francis Xavier’s Catholic Church in Hpa-An (2007-2010). He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome (2011-2014), and went on to serve as professor of canon law (since 2015) and bursar of Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Yangon (since 2016), and defender of the bond at the Interdiocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Yangon (since 2020).
