Resignation and appointment of bishop of Grosseto and Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello, Italy
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the dioceses of Grosseto and of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello, united in persona Episcopi, presented by Bishop Gianni Roncari, O.F.M. Cap.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Bernardino Giordano, of the diocese of Saluzzo, fidei donum priest of the territorial prelature of Loreto and vicar general of the Pontifical Delegation for the Shrine, as bishop of the dioceses of Grosseto and of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello, again united in persona Episcopi.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Bernardino Giordano was born on 23 March 1970 in Turin, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the same name. He graduated in economics from the University of Turin. He entered the diocesan seminary of Saluzzo, and was ordained a priest for the same diocese on 15 December 2001.
He holds a doctorate in moral theology from the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy of Rome, and is lecturer at the Interdiocesan Theological Studium and the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Fossano. He has served as parish vicar of the Cathedral Church of Saluzzo, defender of the bond and promoter of justice of the diocesan tribunal, episcopal chancellor (2008-20119, director of the Diocesan Vocations Centre and head of the Diocesan Family Pastoral Office (2008), assistant to the director of the National Family Pastoral Office of the Italian Episcopal Conference (2011), collaborator with the General Secretariat of the Italian Episcopal Conference (2013-2014), chair and member of the administration board of the “G.G. Ancina” Pastoral Ministry of Saluzzo and parish vicar in Castello and San Chiaffredo in Busca (2014), and parish priest of Santi Martino e Bernardo in Saluzzo (2015).
Since 2018 he has served as fidei donum priest of the territorial prelature of Loreto and, since 2019, vicar general of the Pontifical Delegation, member of the administration board and head of Family Pastoral for the Shrine.

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished Dr. Matthias Kopp, spokesman of the German Episcopal Conference, as consultor of the Dicastery for Communication.
