Appointment of bishop of Mar del Plata, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Ernesto Giobando, S.J., until now titular of Appiaria and auxiliary of Buenos Aires, and current apostolic administrator of Mar del Plata, as bishop of the diocese of Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Ernesto Giobando, S.J., was born on 13 December 1959 in Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz. After attending the Jesuit College of the Inmaculada, he entered the Society of Jesus on 7 December 1978. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Theology of San Miguel and in the Colegio Máximo de San José, obtaining a licentiate and a degree.

He was ordained a priest on 17 November 1990, and gave his vows in the Society of Jesus on 2 May 2000.

He has held the following offices: minister (1990-1992) and professor of the Colegio Máximo, minister of the CIAS (Centro de Investigación y Acciòn Social), superior of the Regina Martyrum Residence in Buenos Aires, national secretary of the Prayer Apostleship in Argentina, national director of the Youth Eucharistic Movement, member of the Presbyteral Council and chargé of the pastoral care of adults in the archdiocese of Buenos Aires and rector of the Sagrada Familia Residence in Montevideo, Uruguay.

On 5 March 2014 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Buenos Aires, and assigned the titular see of Appiaria, receiving episcopal ordination the following 3 May.

On 17 January he was appointed apostolic administrator of the diocese of Mar del Plata.

Within the Argentine Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Social Pastoral Commission.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Québec, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Jean Tailleur, vicar general of the metropolitan archdiocese of Québec, Canada, and moderator of the archepiscopal Curia, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Québec, assigning him the titular see of Abora.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Jean Tailleur was born on 5 November 1963 in Québec, in the archdiocese of the same name. After his studies in philosophy and theology, he graduated from the Université Laval in Québec and was then awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Université Saint-Paul in Ottawa. He was ordained a priest for the metropolitan archdiocese of Québec on 25 November 1990.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens and pastoral head of the elementary school (1990-1996), pastoral animator in the minor seminary of Québec (1996-2000), diocesan youth pastoral animator (2000-2008), reserve chaplain of the Voltigeurs de Québec Regiment of the 35th Canadian Brigade (1997-2013), chancellor of the metropolitan archdiocese of Québec (2011-2024), and member and moderator of the in solidum team of the parishes of Saint-Raymond-du-NordBienheureuse-Mère-Saint-Louis and Sacré-Coeur-de-Jésus (2021-2024). Since 2013 he has served as canon of the metropolitan Chapter of Québec.

He is currently vicar general of the metropolitan archdiocese of Québec and moderator of the archepiscopal Curia.
