The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Víctor Hugo Palma Paúl as metropolitan archbishop of the archdiocese of Los Altos, Quetzaltenango–Totonicapán, Guatemala, transferring him from the diocese of Escuintla.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Víctor Hugo Palma Paúl was born on 10 April 1958 in Guatemala City. He entered the National Major Seminary of Guatemala, and carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Salesian Theological Institute.
He was ordained a priest on 23 December 1983, and was awarded a licentiate in theology and a doctorate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He has held the offices of formator and lecturer in sacred scripture in the National Major Seminary of Guatemala, and director of studies in the National Major Seminary of Guatemala.
On 14 July 2001 he was appointed coadjutor of Escuintla and ordained a bishop on the following 1 September. He became residential bishop on 3 April 2004.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Rui Augusto Jardim Gouveia, until now vicar general of the diocese of Setúbal and parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Anunciada, as auxiliary bishop of the Patriarchate of Lisboa, Portugal, assigning him the titular see of Aradi.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Rui Augusto Jardim Gouveia was born on 17 April 1975 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He graduated in chemical technology from the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidade de Lisboa and holds a degree in theology from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisboa.
He was ordained a priest on 6 July 2008, and was incardinated in the diocese of Setúbal. He subsequently studied catechetical theology at the University San Dámaso and biblical spirituality at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Divino Espírito Santo in Monijo (2008-2009), collaborator at the pre-seminary (2008-2011), director of the diocesan Secretariat for Vocational Pastoral Care (2008), director of the diocesan Secretariat of Catechesis for Childhood and Adolescence (2011), head of the pre-seminary (2011-2019), parish administrator of São Jorge in Sarilhos Grandes and the Shrine of Nossa Senhora in Atalaia (2012), prefect of studies of the São Paulo Major Seminary in Almada, of which he was then appointed rector (2017-2024), director of the diocesan Secretariat of Catechesis for Childhood and Adolescence (2012-2014) and of Catechesis for Adults (since 2012), chaplain of the Externato Frei Luís de Sousa (since 2016), member of the Presbyteral Council (since 2017), chair of the Study Commission for the Permanent Diaconate (since 2018), and member of the College of Consultors (since 2019).
To date, he is vicar general of the diocese of Setúbal, parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Anunciada, member of the Presbyteral Council and spiritual assistant of the Family Pastoral Department.
