Resignation and appointment of bishop of Buga, Colombia

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Buga, Colombia, presented by Bishop José Roberto Ospina Leongómez.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Alexander Matiz Atencio, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Cali, Colombia, until now episcopal vicar for the economy, as bishop of Buga, Colombia.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Alexander Matiz Atencio was born on 4 August 1960 in Pasto. He graduated in architecture from the Universidad del Valle in Cali, and carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the San Pedro Apóstol Major Seminary of Cali, and in liturgy and religious art at the Pastoral Liturgical Centre in Barcelona.

He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Cali on 25 November 1990.

He has held the following offices: parish administrator (1990-1993) and parish priest (1997-2003) of San José Obrero, parish vicar in Barcelona, Spain, director of liturgy of the archdiocese of Cali (1996), director of the Vida Justicia y Paz Archdiocesan Commission and director of social pastoral care (2002-2012), parish priest of San Juan Evangelista (2004-2010), parish priest of Nuestro Señor de los Cristales (2010-2017), and parish priest of María Inmaculada (2017-2024). Since 2024 he has served as episcopal vicar for the economy.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Termoli-Larino, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Termoli-Larino, Italy, presented by Bishop Gianfranco De Luca.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Claudio Palumbo of Trivento as bishop of Termoli-Larino, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Claudio Palumbo was born on 30 January 1965 in Venafro, in the province of Isernia, diocese of Isernia-Venafro. After entering the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Chieti, he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Theological Institute of Abruzzo and Molise, and a degree in Church history from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 15 August 1990 for the diocese of Isernia-Venafro.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of San Giovanni Bosco (1990-2011), vice rector of the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Chieti (1993-1998), librarian of the Theological Institute of Abruzzo and Molise (1993-2011).

From 2009 to 2017 he was vicar general and, from 2011, parish priest of San Pietro Apostolo.

He was elected bishop of Trivento on 5 June 2017, and received episcopal consecration the following 8 September.

He is a member of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

Within the Episcopal Conference of Abruzzo and Molise, he is regional secretary and bishop delegate for culture, catechesis and social communications.

In addition, he is moderator of studies at the Theological Institute of Abruzzo and Molise in Chieti.
