Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of Bombay, India

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop John Rodrigues as coadjutor archbishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Bombay, India, transferring him from the diocese of Poona.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect John Rodrigues was born on 21 August 1967 in Mumbai. He was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome (2000-2002). He was ordained a priest on 18 April 1998 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Bombay.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Saint Michael in Mahim (1998-1999), secretary to the Cardinal Metropolitan Archbishop of Bombay (1999-2000), professor of dogmatic theology (2002-2013) and dean of studies (2011-2013) at Saint Pius X College in Goregaon.

He was appointed titular bishop of Deulto and auxiliary bishop of Bombay on 15 May 2013, and received episcopal consecration the following 29 June. He was transferred to the diocese of Poona on 25 March 2023.

 

Appointment of bishop of Iglesias, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Mario Farci of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Cagliari, dean of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia, as bishop of the diocese of Iglesias, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Mario Farci was born 9 May 1967 in Quartu Sant’Elena, in the archdiocese and province of Cagliari. He was ordained a priest on 7 December 1991, and incardinated in his archdiocese of origin.

He has held the following offices: vicar in the parish of SS. Crocifisso in Cagliari (1992-1999), spiritual director of the archepiscopal seminary (1996-1998), archepiscopal delegate for the Office of the Permanent Diaconate and Instituted Ministries (1999-2022), diocesan assistant of the FUCI (1999-2004), director of the Office for Ecumenism and Dialogue (1999-2022), lecturer in dogmatic theology at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences in Cagliari (since 1994), lecturer in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardini (since 1998), chaplain at the Sant’Antonio care home in Cagliari (since 1999) administrator of the parish of SS. Crocifisso in Cagliari (2001), member of the Promoting Committee of the master's degree course in ecumenical studies at the San Bernardino Theological Institute in Venice, director of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (2010-2020), Founding Member of the Italian Association of Teachers of Ecumenism (since 2014), member of the Presbyteral Council (since 2012), member of the Governing Council of the Italian Theological Association (since 2019), diocesan referent of the Synodal Way (since 2021), dean of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia, member of the Commission for Sacred Orders and Ministries, director of the Office of the Permanent Diaconate and Instituted Ministries, member of the National Committee of the Synodal Way, member of the Italian Theological Association and member of the Scientific Committee of the School of Higher Education in Ecumenism at the Theological Faculty of Central Italy in Florence (since 2022).

 

Appointment of bishop of Corumbá, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend João Batista de Oliveira, S.V.D., until now parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Penha, diocese of Ji-Paraná, as bishop of Corumbá, Brazil.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. João Batista de Oliveira, S.V.D., was born on 9 July 1963 in Rio Azul, in the diocese of União da Vitória, in the State of Paraná. He is a member of the Society of the Divine Word (Verbite Missionaries), in which he received his formation since his entry into the Seminário Verbo Divino in Ponta Grossa - PR. He completed his studies in philosophy at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná in Curitiba – PR and in theology at the Instituto de Estudos Superiores de São Paulo. He has also completed his formation in history and sociology at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná and participated in courses in missiology in Mexico and for formators in the Netherlands.

On 25 March 2000, he gave his perpetual vows in the parish of São Pedro in Diadema - SP, in the diocese of Santo André. He was ordained a priest on 24 February 2001 in the parish of Sagrado Coração de Jesus in Rio Azul, in the diocese of União da Vitóriain the State of Paraná.

He has held the following offices: missionary in Ecuador (2001-2008), deputy formator at the Seminário Verbo Divino in Toledo - PR (2009), deputy vocational promotor of the Província dos Verbitas Brasil Sul in Curitiba - PR (2010), master of novices at the Seminário Verbo Divino in Juquiá - SP (2011-2016) and provincial superior of the Província Brasil Centro (2017-2022).

He is currently parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Penha in the diocese of Ji-Paraná.
