Appointment of military ordinary for Portugal
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Sérgio Manuel Ribeiro Dinis, of the clergy of the diocese of Vila Real, currently parish priest of Santa Maria Maior de Murça, Nossa Senhora da Anunciação in Noura, and Santa Maria Madalena in Candedo, Portugal, as bishop military ordinary for Portugal.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Sérgio Manuel Ribeiro Dinis was born on 8 March 1970 in Ermelo, diocese of Vila Real. After the Colégio Salesiano de Poiares, he attended the Vila Real Seminary and the major seminary of Porto. He was awarded a licentiate in theology from the Universidad Católica Portuguesa of Porto, and a licentiate in canon law from the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca.
He was ordained a priest on 17 July 1994, and incardinated in the diocese of Vila Real.
He has held the following offices: secretary to Bishop Joaquim Gonçalves of Vila Real (1993-1996), parish priest of Santa Maria Maior de Murça, Nossa Senhora da Anunciação in Noura, and Santa Maria Madalena in Candedo (1996-1998); parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Purificação in Fiolhoso and São Sebastião in Pópulo (1996-2014).
He is currently also judge of the Interdiocesan Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Vila Real, dean of the Douro II Deanery, chaplain of the Holy House of Mercy in Murça, and member of the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council and the Pastoral Council of the diocese of Vila Real.
