The Holy Father has erected the ecclesiastical province of Joinville, Brazil, elevating the see of Joinville to a metropolitan Church and assigning to it as suffragans the dioceses of Blumenau and Rio do Sul, until now belonging to the ecclesiastical province of Florianópolis.
The Holy Father has erected the ecclesiastical province of Chapecó, Brazil, elevating the see of Chapecó to a metropolitan Church and assigning to it as suffragans the dioceses of Caçador, Joaçaba and Lages, and Rio do Sul, until now belonging to the ecclesiastical province of Florianópolis.
The ecclesiastical province of Florianópolis, Brazil, conserves the suffragan dioceses of Criciúma and Tubarão.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Odelir José Magri, M.C.C.J., until now bishop of the see of Chapecó, Brazil, as first metropolitan archbishop of the same metropolitan archdiocese.
Curriculum vitae
Archbishop-elect Odelir José Magri, M.C.C.J., was born on 18 April 1963 in Campo Erê, diocese of Chapecó, in the State of Santa Catarina. He studied philosophy at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná in Curitiba-PR, and theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris. He attended a course for seminary formators organized in São Paulo-SP in collaboration with the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.
On 26 June 1988 he gave his religious vows in the Congregation of Comboni Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, receiving priestly ordination on 18 October 1992.
He has held the following offices: missionary in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he was also formator of postulants, formator and parish priest in São Paulo-SP, provincial counsellor, master of novices and superior of the community in Contagem-MG, deputy provincial superior, assistant general, and then vicar general in Rome.
On 11 October 2010 he was appointed bishop of Sobral, receiving episcopal ordination the following 12 December. On 3 December 2014 he was transferred s bishop of Chapecó.
Within the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (NCBB), he has served as chair of the Episcopal Commission of Missionary Action and Inter-ecclesial Cooperation, and is currently president of the NCBB Region Sul 4.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Francisco Carlos Bach, until now bishop of the see of Joinville, Brazil, as first metropolitan archbishop of the same metropolitan archdiocese.
Curriculum vitae
Archbishop-elect Francisco Carlos Bach was born on 4 May 1954 in Ponta Grossa, in the diocese of the same name, in the State of Paraná. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Rainha dos Apóstolos Major Seminary, and in theology at the Studium Theologicum. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
On 3 December 1977 he received priestly ordination, and was incardinated in the diocese of Ponta Grossa.
He has held the following offices: parish priest of São Jorge in Ponta Grossa-PR, bursar, professor and rector of the minor seminary, diocesan pastoral coordinator, parish vicar of the Cathedral and the parish of São Sebastião, professor at the Mater Ecclesiae Institute of Philosophy and Theology (IFITEME), judge auditor, rector of the major seminary, diocesan bursar, director of the diocesan radio station, member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors, diocesan administrator, and vicar general.
On 27 July 2005 he was appointed bishop of Toledo and received episcopal ordination on the following 27 October. On 3 October 2012 he was transferred to the diocese of São José dos Pinhais, and on 19 April 2017 he was appointed bishop of Joinville.
Within the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (NCBB), he has served as member of the Commission for Ecclesiastical Tribunals of the Second Instance, Secretary of NCBB Region Sul 2, and president of NCBB Region Sul 4.
Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Warszawa-Praga, Poland
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Tomasz Zbigniew Sztajerwald, of the clergy of Warszawa-Praga, Poland, and rector of the major seminary, as auxiliary bishop of the same diocese, assigning him the titular see of Cediae.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Tomasz Zbigniew Sztajerwald was born on 24 November 1977 in Wołomin. He was awarded a licentiate from the French Language Teacher Training School of the University of Warsaw, and was ordained a priest on 5 June 2004.
After ordination, he first served as parish vicar in the parish of the Transfiguration in Radzymin (2004-2006), resident vicar of the parish of Our Lady Queen of Polish Martyrs in Warszawa-Grochów (2006-2007) and of the parish of the Nativity of the Lord in Warszawa-Witolin (2007-2009), and prefect of the major seminary (2009-2021). After obtaining a master’s degree in clinical psychology (2011) and a doctorate in psychology of marriage and the family (2020) from the Cardinale Stefan Wyszyński University in Warszawa, he went on to serve as psychology assistant at the Akademia Katolicka of Warszawa (2012-2018). He has been rector of the major seminary since 2021.
