The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Madurai in India, presented by Archbishop Antony Pappusamy.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Milwaukee, United States of America, presented by Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jeffrey S. Grob, until now titular of Abora and auxiliary of Chicago, United States of America, as metropolitan archbishop of Milwaukee, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Jeffrey S. Grob was born on 19 March 1961 in Madison, in the diocese of the same name. He studied at Holy Name High School Seminary in Madison, and at Saint Meinrad Seminary in Saint Meinrad, Indiana. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and carried out his theological studies for the archdiocese of Chicago at the Mundelein Seminary, obtaining a Master of Divinity. He was subsequently awarded a licentiate in theology at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, a doctorate in canon law at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, and a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Ottawa.

He was ordained a priest on 23 May 1992 for the archdiocese of Chicago.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saints Faith, Hope, and Charity in Winnetka; assistant chancellor; judge of the Court of Appeal of the Ecclesiastical Province of Chicago; parish priest of Saint Celestine in Elmwood Park; judicial vicar; chancellor; and episcopal vicar for the Vicariate I.

He was appointed titular bishop of Abora and auxiliary of Chicago on 11 September 2020, and received episcopal consecration the following 13 November.

 

Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Warszawa, Poland

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Warszawa, Poland, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz.

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Adrian Józef Galbas, S.A.C., as metropolitan archbishop of Warszawa, Poland, transferring him from the metropolitan see of Katowice.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop Adrian Józef Galbas, S.A.C., was born on 26 January 1968 in Bytom, in the diocese of Gliwice. In 1987 he was admitted to the novitiate of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines). He studied at the major seminary of the same Society in Ołtarzew, for which he was ordained a priest on 7 May 1994.

After ordination, he first held the role of vicar of Saint Michael Archangel in Łódź (1994-1995). He obtained a licentiate in pastoral theology from the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (1995-1998), and went on to serve as prefect of discipline in the Pallottine Major Seminary in Ołtarzew (1998-2002); provincial counsellor of the Province of Poznań (2002-2005); parish priest of Saint Lawrence in Poznań (2003-2011); and provincial of the Province of Poznań in the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (2011-2019). He was awarded a doctorate in spiritual theology from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warszawa in 2012.

On 2 December 2019 he was elected to the titular see of Naissus, and appointed auxiliary of the diocese of Ełk, receiving episcopal consecration on 11 January 2020.

On 4 December 2021 he was transferred to the office of the coadjutor archbishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Katowice, becoming metropolitan archbishop on 31 May 2023. From 2023 to 2024 he was apostolic administrator sede vacante of the diocese of Sosnowiec.

Within the Polish Episcopal Conference, Archbishop Galbas is a member of the Permanent Council and chair of the Council for the Lay Apostolate.
