The following is the telegram of condolence sent by the Holy Father Francis to Bishop Domenico Pompili of Verona on the death last Sunday, 20 October, of His Eminence Cardinal Eugenio Dal Corso, P.S.D.P., bishop emeritus of Benguela, Angola, of the title of Sant’Anastasia:
Telegram of the Holy Father
TO HIS REVEREND EXCELLENCY
BISHOP DOMENICO POMPILI
VERONA
THE DEATH OF CARDINAL EUGENIO DAL CORSO, SPIRITUAL SON OF SAINT JOHN CALABRIA, HAS MOVED MY HEART, REMEMBERING HIM AS A FAITHFUL RELIGIOUS IN ITALY AND A ZEALOUS MISSIONARY IN ARGENTINA AND ANGOLA, WHERE HE WAS APPOINTED BISHOP OF SAURIMO AND THEN OF BENGUELA. HE SERVED THE LORD AND THE CHURCH, DEDICATING HIMSELF ESPECIALLY TO THE WEAKEST AND MOST FRAGILE PEOPLE, TO WHOM HE BORE WITNESS TO THE LOVE OF CHRIST. I RAISE MY PRAYERS FOR THE SOUL OF THIS GOOD SERVANT, SO THAT, ACCOMPANIED BY THE VIRGIN MARY, HE MAY BE RECEIVED INTO THE ETERNAL BANQUET OF HEAVEN AND I SEND MY BLESSING TO THE CONGREGATION OF THE POOR SERVANTS OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE, TO THE DIOCESE OF VERONA, TO HIS FAMILY AND TO ALL THOSE WHO SHARE IN THE SORROW FOR HIS DEPARTURE.
FRANCIS
