The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Sindhudurg, India, presented by Bishop Anthony Alwyn Fernandes Barreto.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Spain, presented by Bishop Agustín Cortés Soriano.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Zabier Gómez García, O.P., until now director of the Migration Department of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Zabier Gómez García, O.P., was born on 11 April 1970 in Azkoitia, Basque Country, and was ordained a priest on 12 June 1994 for the diocese of San Sebastián.

In 2003 he entered the Order of Preachers.

After ordination, he first held the role of parish vicar of Elgoibar (1994-1997) and parish priest and coordinator of the pastoral unit of Eskoriatza-Aretxabareta (1997-2003). He was awarded a licentiate in theology from the Pontificia Facultad de Teología San Esteban in Salamanca, a master’s degree on family guidance and mediation from the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, and a postgraduate qualification in intercultural social mediation from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He went on to serve as parish vicar of Santo Cristo in Madrid and pastoral coordinator at the Colegio Nuestra Señora de Atocha (2006-2010); promoter of youth and vocational pastoral care of the O.P. province (2009-2012), parish vicar of the Shrine of Nuestras Señora de Atocha (2010-2016), prior of the Convent of Saint Catherine in Barcelona (2016-2018), provincial promoter of justice and peace (2013-2021), O.P. promoter of justice and peace at European level (2016-2022), coordinator of the Samba Martine Human Rights Observatory (since 2016), prior of the Santo Tomás de Aquino-El Olivar Convent in Madrid (since 2019), director of the O_LUMEN - Espacio para las artes y la palabra (since 2021); director of the Migration Department of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (since 2021), and director of the pre-novitiate programme of the O.P. province (since 2022).
