On 16 September, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, held a video-conference with Ms. Tatiana Moskalkova, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation.

During the discussion, the Cardinal Secretary of State, besides thanking the Russian Ombudslady for the role she played in the release of two Ukrainian priests, recalled the need to safeguard, in the context of the current conflict, the fundamental human rights enshrined in International Conventions, and referred to several matters of a humanitarian nature. In particular, he referred to assistance for Ukrainian soldiers held prisoner in the Russian Federation, and the reciprocal exchange of soldiers detained in Russia and Ukraine.
