Farewell ceremony at Jakarta International Airport, Indonesia
This morning, after celebrating Holy Mass in private, the Holy Father Francis bade farewell to the staff and benefactors of the Apostolic Nunciature in Jakarta and transferred by car to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport where the farewell ceremony from Indonesia was held.
Upon arrival at the airport, the Pope was welcomed by the Minister for Religious Affairs. After the greeting of the respective delegations and the local entourage, the Holy Father boarded an A330 / Garuda Indonesia aircraft and departed at 10.37 local time (05.37 in Rome), bound for Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.
The aircraft carrying the Holy Father is expected to land at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby after a flight of approximately six hours’ duration.

Immediately after departure from Jakarta, the Holy Father Francis sent the following telegram to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr. Joko Widodo:

IN CONTINUING MY APOSTOLIC JOURNEY TO PAPUA NEW GUINEA, TIMOR-LESTE AND SINGAPORE, I WILL BE PASSING THROUGH INDONESIAN AIRSPACE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. Welcome ceremony at Port Moresby Airport
This afternoon, at 19.09 (11.09 in Rome), upon arrival at Port Moresby International Airport in Papua New Guinea, the Holy Father Francis was received by the deputy Prime Minister and two children in traditional dress, who gave him a gift of flowers.
After the Guard of Honour, the execution of the anthems and the Honour of the Flags, the presentation of the respective delegations took place.
At the end, the Pope took leave of the deputy Prime Minister and transferred by car to the Apostolic Nunciature.
