This morning, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Francis received in audience Her Excellency Ms. Romina Elisabeth Taboada Tonina, ambassador of Paraguay to the Holy See, on the occasion of the presentation of her credential letters.
The following is a brief biography of the new ambassador:

Ambassador of Paraguay to the Holy See
Her Excellency Ms. Romina Elisabeth Taboada Tonina was born on 4 February 1978.
She graduated as a lawyer in 2004 and specialized as a notary (2010) at the Faculty of Legal and Diplomatic Sciences of the Catholic University of Asunción.
She attended an expert course in National and International Ceremony and Protocol” at the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI) (2012).
She was awarded a master’s degree in “Economic Security, Geopolitics and Intelligence’ (2013) and a master's degree in “International Relations and International Protection of Human Rights” (2015) at SIOI-Una, Italy.
- She holds a doctorate in legal sciences from the Catholic University of Asunción (2019).
She has held the following offices:
- Head of the Compliance and Resolution Monitoring Section at the Secretariat of the Supreme Court of Justice, Paraguay (2004 - 2006)
- Head of the Ethics Complaints Department of the Office of Judicial Ethics at the Supreme Court of Justice, Paraguay (2006 - 2011)
- First Secretary, Embassy to the Holy See and the Order of Malta (2011 - 2013)
- Minister, Embassy to the Holy See and the Order of Malta (2014 - 2018)
- Ambassador to Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland (2018 - 2021)
- Consultant in Public and Private International Law at the law firm “Almada Royg & Caballero” (2021 - 2024).
