Appointment of bishop of Baní, Dominican Republic
The Holy Father has appointed Bishpo Faustino Burgos Brisman, C.M., as bishop of the diocese of Baní, Dominican Republic, transferring him from the titular see of Bararo and the office of auxiliary of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Faustino Burgos Brisman, C.M., was born on 15 February 1960 in San Francisco de Macorís, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the novitiate of the Lazarist Fathers in 1982, and was ordained a priest on 30 May 1987.
He was awarded a licentiate in religious sciences in Santo Domingo, and specialized in management and administration of private educational centres and colleges.
After ordination, he attended a course in spirituality in Paris, and served as seminary formator and director of various educational centres of his Congregation in Santo Domingo. After a missionary experience in Haiti, he went on to serve as provincial of his religious Institute for the Antilles Region (2003-2015), and provincial director of the Daughters of Charity of the Caribbean Region (2015-2017).
On 22 July 2017 he was appointed titular bishop of Bararo and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo, receiving episcopal consecration on the following 26 August.
He is currently secretary general of the Dominican Episcopal Conference and, since 2023, apostolic administrator of the diocese of Baní.
