Erection of the diocese of Jaú, Brazil, and appointment of the first bishop

The Holy Father has erected the diocese of Jaú, Brazil, with territory taken from the diocese of São Carlos, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan archdiocese of Campinas.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Francisco Carlos da Silva as the first bishop of the diocese of Jaú, transferring him from the diocese of Lins.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Francisco Carlos da Silva was born on 20 September 1955 in Tabatinga, diocese of São Carlos, in the State of São Paulo. He carried out his studies in philosophy in the diocesan seminary of São Carlos, and in theology at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Campinas-SP.

He received priestly ordination on 11 December 1982, and was incardinated in the diocese of São Carlos.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar in Itápolis-SP, parish administrator and then parish priest in Itaju-SP, parish priest of São Sebastião in Borborema-SP, head of youth pastoral care, coordinator of pastoral ministry in the Pastoral Region IV, diocesan pastoral coordinator, vicar general, episcopal vicar for the Pastoral Region IV, member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors, canon of the Cathedral and president of the diocesan Chapter, diocesan administrator, director of the diocesan archive and member of the Commission for Cultural Heritage of the diocese.

On 19 September 2007 he was appointed bishop of Ituiutaba, and received episcopal ordination the following 22 November. On 20 September 2015 he was transferred to the diocese of Lins.
