Resignation and appointment of bishop of Pontoise, France
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Pontoise, France, presented by Bishop Stanislas Lalanne.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Benoît Bertrand as bishop of Pontoise, transferring him from the diocese of Mende.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Benoît Bertrand was born on 1 June 1960 in Nantes in the diocese of the same name. After his university studies in pharmacy, he attended the Pontifical French Seminary in Rome and was awarded a doctorate in theology from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences of the Pontifical Lateran University.
He was ordained a priest on 29 June for the diocese of Nantes.
He has held the following offices: collaborator in the student chaplaincy of Nantes (1992-1994), professor in the interdiocesan seminary of Angers (1994-1996) and Nantes (1996-2004), rector of the Saint-Jean interdiocesan seminary of Nantes (2004-2010), and vicar general of Nantes (2010-2019). On 17 January 2019 he was appointed bishop of Mende, and received episcopal ordination the following 3 March. Within the French Episcopal Conference, he is chair of the Doctrinal Commission.
