The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Albacete, Spain, presented by Bishop Ángel Fernández Collado.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Charlotte, United States of America, presented by Bishop Peter Joseph Jugis.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Michael T. Martin, O.F.M. Conv., member of the Our Lady of the Angels Province, United States of America, until now parish priest of Saint Philip Benizi in Jonesboro, Georgia, as bishop of Charlotte, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Michael T. Martin, O.F.M. Conv., was born on 2 December 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland, in the archdiocese of the same name. He entered the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Conventual, and gave his solemn vows on 2 August 1985. He was subsequently awarded a bachelor’s degree from Saint Hyacinth College and Seminary in Granby, Massachusetts, and studied theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty “San Bonaventura” in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 10 June 1989.

Following ordination, he first held the roles of admissions director and teacher at Saint Francis High School in Athol Springs, New York (1989-1996). After obtaining a Master of Education from Boston College (1993), he went on to serve as principal and then head of Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, Maryland (1996-2001, 2001-2010), director of Duke Catholic Center in Durham, North Carolina (2010-2022), and since 2022, parish priest of Saint Philip Benizi in Jonesboro, Georgia.
