Resignation and appointment of bishop of Santa María de los Ángeles, Chile
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Santa María de los Ángeles, Chile, presented by Bishop Pedro Felipe Bacarreza Rodríguez.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Cristián Castro Toovey as bishop of Santa María de los Ángeles, Chile, transferring him from the titular see of Tigava and the office of auxiliary of Santiago de Chile.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Cristián Castro Toovey was born on 25 November 1969 in Santiago de Chile. After attending the San Gaspar School of the Missionary Fathers of the Precious Blood, he entered the Pontifical Major Seminary of Santiago de Chile.
He was ordained a priest on 24 May 1997.
He has held the following offices: vicar (1997-1999), parish administrator (1999-2001) and parish priest (2001-2004) in various parishes of Santo Tomás Moro, parish priest of San Alberto de Sicilia (2004-2013), member of the Clergy Department (2008-2011), diocesan delegate to the Pastoral Office of Complaints of the Archbishopric of Santiago de Chile (2011-2012), parish priest of Santa Inés and general chaplain of the Duoc UC Professional Institute, episcopal vicar for the clergy of the Archdiocese of Santiago (2018-2019).
In June 2014 he was appointed rector of the Pontifical Major Seminary of the Holy Guardian Angels.
He was appointed titular bishop of Tivaga and auxiliary of Santiago on 22 June 2021, and consecrated the following 13 August.
