Appointment of special envoy to the concluding celebration of the Virginian Jubilee Year (Abbey of Santa Maria in Montevergine, Mercogliano, Italy)

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Arrigo Miglio as his special envoy to the concluding celebration of the Virginian Jubilee Year, to take place on 19 May 2024, Sunday of Pentecost, at the Abbey of Santa Maria in Montevergine.

 

Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Gulu, Uganda

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Gulu, Uganda, presented by Archbishop John Baptist Odama.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, M.C.C.J., until now bishop of the diocese of Nebbi, as metropolitan archbishop of the archdiocese of Gulu, Uganda.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, M.C.C.J., was born on 21 January 1961 in Ojigo, in the diocese of Arua. After attending Saint Charles Lwanga College in Koboko and the minor seminary of Arua, he entered the Institute of Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus, giving his perpetual vows on 12 October 1992. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Uganda Martyrs National Major Seminary of Alokolum, and in theology at Tangaza University College of Nairobi, where he was awarded a degree in philosophy.

He was ordained a priest on 25 September 1993.

He has held the following offices: parish ministry in Uganda (1993-1994), missionary in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, bursar of the Comboni Community in Kisangani and formator of Combonian postulants (2001-2003), missionary in Chicago, United States of America, formator at the Comboni International Theologate (2003-2007), missionary in Nairobi, Kenya, formator and lecturer at Tangaza University College (2007-2015), member of the Provincial Council of Kenya and vice provincial (2011-2013), apostolic visitator of the Apostles of Jesus Congregation (2015-2018), and since 2018, Pontifical Commissioner of the same Congregation based in Nairobi, Kenya.

He was appointed bishop of Nebbi on 31 March 2021, and was consecrated the following 14 August.
