Assignation of titular see and episcopal ordination of His Eminence Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, S.D.B.

The Holy Father has assigned to His Eminence Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, S.D.B., rector major of the Salesian Society of Saint John Bosco, the titular see of Ursona, with the dignity of archbishop, in view of his episcopal ordination, to take place on 20 April.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, presented by Bishop Cletus Chandrasiri Perera, O.S.B. Silv.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Peter Antony Wyman Croos, of the clergy of the diocese of Chilaw, until now diocesan director of lands and estates, and episcopal vicar for the religious of the deaneries of Chilaw and Puttalam, as bishop of the same diocese of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Peter Antony Wyman Croos was born on 8 November 1967 in Chilaw, in the diocese of the same name. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Our Lady of Lanka Major Seminary in Kandy.

He was ordained a priest on 16 September 2000, for the clergy of Chilaw.

After ordination, he first held the roles of parish vicar of Saint Anne’s Shrine, Talawila (2000-2002), parish priest of Saint Mary’s, Mampuri (2001-2009), director of the diocesan pastoral centre Saint Joseph Vaz (2009-2010), and parish priest of Saint Francis Xavier, Kattaikadu (2010-2011). He was awarded a licentiate in pastoral theology and in Christology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy – San Tommaso d’Aquino Section in Capodimonte, Naples, at the same time holding the office of chaplain of the Sri Lankan community in Naples (2011-2014), and went on to serve as diocesan director of Caritas (2015-2019). Since 2019 he has held the office of diocesan director of lands and estates, and episcopal vicar for the religious of the deanery of the regions of Chilaw and Puttalam.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Dublin, Ireland

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Donal Roche, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Dublin, vicar general, as auxiliary bishop of Dublin, Ireland, assigning him the titular see of Cell Ausaille.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Donal Roche was born on 16 April 1958 in Drimagh Road, Dublin. After several work experiences, he studied at Holy Cross College and Saint Patrick’s College in Maynooth.

He received priestly ordination on 22 June 1986.

He has held the following offices: teacher in Coolock (1986-1992), catechesis consultant (1992-1997), chaplain of the Saint Mark’s Community School (1997-2005), deputy parish priest of San Lucan South (2005-2006), co-parish priest of San Lucan South (2006-2012), secretary of the Presbyteral Council (since 2011), administrator of the parish of Wicklow Town (2012-2021), and episcopal vicar for the deaneries of Bray, Dun Laoghaire, Wicklow and Donnybrook (since 2019). Since 2021 he has served as vicar general of the archdiocese of Dublin.

 

Appointment of substitute Promoter of Justice of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Shane Lee Kirby, until now official of the Dicastery for the Clergy, as substitute Promoter of Justice of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Kirby was born on 12 March 1973 in Washington, United States of America, and received priestly ordination on 26 June 2004 for the diocese of Scranton. In 2005 he was awarded a licentiate in patristic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy, and in 2014, a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America in Washington. In his diocese of incardination, besides various pastoral roles, he has held the office of chancellor and episcopal vicar for canonical affairs. Since 2017, he has served as an official of the Dicastery for the Clergy.
