Resignation and appointment of bishop of David, Panama

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of David, Panama, presented by His Eminence Cardinal José Luis Lacunza Maestrojuán, O.A.R.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Luis Enrique Saldaña Guerra, O.F.M., until now provincial minister of the Franciscan Province of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe of Central America and the Caribbean.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Luis Enrique Saldaña Guerra, O.F.M., was born on 24 February 1966 in David, Panama. After his studies in philosophy at the Universidad Rafael Landívar in Guatemala, and in theology at the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas in El Salvador, he attended specialization courses for vocational promoters and formators. He gave his solemn vows on 23 February 2002, and was ordained a priest on 29 April 2006.

He has held the following offices: accompanier and formator of novices and Franciscan brethren; parish vicar; guardian of the Fraternity of the Parishes of San Juan Bautista in Boquete, Panama, Nuestra Señora del Carmen in David, Panama, and San Antonio de Padua in Miraflores, Panama; guardian of the Virgen del Socorro Fraternity in La Antigua, Guatemala; Franciscan provincial definitor of Panama (2008-2017); administrative director of the Franciscan schools of Pio XII in Boquete, Panama, and San Francisco de Asís in David, Panama, deputy director of the Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro in La Antigua, Guatemala; since 2021, provincial minister of the Franciscan province of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe of Central America and the Caribbean, Guatemala.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Dhaka, Bangladesh

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Subroto Boniface Gomes, of the clergy of Dhaka, Bangladesh, until now parish priest of Santo Rosario, assigning him the titular see of Tamazuca, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Subroto Boniface Gomes was born on 19 November 1962 in Rangamatia, in the archdiocese of Dhaka. He attended the Intermediate Seminary of Saint Joseph in Dhaka, and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts from Notre Dame College in Dhaka. He studied philosophy in Bangalore and theology in Dhaka. He obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas and was ordained a priest on 16 April 1990 for the clergy of Dhaka.

After ordination, he first served as deputy parish priest of Santo Rosario, Dhaka (1990-1993). After studying in Manila (1994-1996), he went on to hold the roles of professor of logic at Notre Dame College, Dhaka (1997-2003), professor at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary, Dhaka (2004-2007), deputy secretary general of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh (2007-2015), parish priest in Golla, Dhaka (2015-2017), spiritual director of the Holy Spirit Major Seminary, Dhaka (2017-2018), and chancellor of the archdiocese of Dhaka (2018-2019). Since 2020 he has served as parish priest of Santo Rosario, Dhaka. He is also dean of studies of the Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Dhaka, editor in chief of the Theological Journal, secretary of the Fraternity of Diocesan Priests of Bangladesh, member of the Regional Planning and Evaluative Committee of Caritas in Bangladesh, and director of various archdiocesan commissions.

 

Appointment of director of Infrastructure and Services of the Governorate of Vatican City State

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished General Salvatore Farina, former Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, as director of Infrastructure and Services of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

 

Appointment of chaplain of the Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage of the Governorate of Vatican City State

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Don Francesco Fontana, S.D.B., chaplain of the Directorate of Security and Civil Protection Services of the Governorate of Vatican City State, as chaplain of the Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage, coordinator of all the Chaplains of the Directorates and Central Offices, and coordinator of the “Estate Ragazzi” (“Summer Kids”) Programme, the “Festa della Famiglia” (“Family Festival”) Programme, and other family pastoral initiatives.
