The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Pedro Collar Noguera as bishop of Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, transferring him from the see of San Juan Bautista de las Misiones.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Pedro Collar Noguera was born on 9 September 1963 in Juan León Mallorquín, in the Department of Alto Paraná. He carried out his studies in philosophy in the metropolitan seminary of Asunción, and in theology in the National Major Seminary. He obtained a licentiate in canon law in Buenos Aires at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina and attended several courses for the doctorate in canon law at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain.
He was ordained a priest on 7 June 1992 in Ciudad del Este.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of San Lucas (1992-1993) and Virgen Aparecida de los Cedrales (1993-1994); moderator of the priest body (1994-1995) and parish priest (1998-2006 and 2014-2015) of the San Blas Cathedral of Ciudad del Este, judge of the diocesan ecclesiastical and interdiocesan tribunals (2000-2006); vicar general of Ciudad del Este (2010-2011 and 2014-2016); diocesan chancellor (2011-2014) and parish priest of San Antonio de Padua del Remansito in Ciudad del Este (2014-2015).
On 23 April 2016 he was appointed titular bishop of Tamugadi and auxiliary of Ciudad del Este, receiving episcopal consecration the following 28 May. On 16 February 2017 he was transferred to San Juan Bautista de las Misiones.
Within the Paraguayan Episcopal Conference he is: member of the Permanent Episcopal Council; chair of the Council for Legal Affairs; chair of the Commission for the Causes of Saints; national coordinator of the pastoral care of priests; national coordinator of the pastoral care of permanent deacons. In addition, he is a member of the Latin American Consortium for Religious Freedom.
