Appointment of coadjutor bishop of the eparchy of Emdeber, Ethiopia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Teshome Fikre Woldetensae, until now protosyncellus of the eparchy of Emdeber, Ethiopia and secretary general of the Interritual Episcopal Conference of Ethiopia, as coadjutor bishop of the same circumscription.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Teshome Fikre Woldetensae was born on 6 June 1972 in Guraghe. In 1992 he entered the seminary and began his institutional studies in philosophy and theology at the Saint Francis Institute of Philosophy and Theology in Addis Abeba.

He was ordained a priest for the eparchy of Emdeber on 11 January 1998, and completed his studies in Rome, where he was awarded a doctorate in oriental canon law. In addition, he knows the Ge’ez liturgical language. He held the office of parish priest of Attat and, for over ten years, was secretary general of the Catholic Secretariat of Emdeber. In 2017 he was appointed national pastoral coordinator. Since 2019 he has served as secretary general of the Interritual Episcopal Conference of Ethiopia.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of San Salvador, El Salvador

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Óscar Álvarez Orellana, of the clergy of San Salvador, rector of the San José de la Montaña Seminary, as auxiliary bishop of San Salvador, El Salvador, assigning him the titular see of Pudentiana.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Óscar Álvarez Orellana was born on 7 September 1962 in Villa El Rosario, Morazán, diocese of San Miguel.

He was ordained a priest on 6 January 1988 for the archdiocese of San Salvador.

He holds a licentiate in history from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

He has held the following offices: formator and professor of the San José de la Montaña Seminary of San Salvador (1988-1993); parish vicar of Nuestra Señora de Montserrat (1988-1990); parish priest of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (1993-1996) and of the Inmaculada Concepción (1996-2019); professor of Church history and patrology in the San Juan XXIII Major Seminary of Santa Ana (2003-2018); professor of theology at the Universidad Católica de El Salvador in Santa Ana (2008-2012); and since 2019, rector of the San José de la Montaña Major Seminary.

 

Appointment of apostolic visitator for Coptic Catholic faithful in Canada and the United States of America

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Pola Matta Usama Safik Akhnoukh of the Coptic eparchy of Ismayliah, Egypt, as apostolic visitator for Coptic Catholic faithful in Canada and the United States of America.

 

Appointment of member of the Commission for Confidential Matters

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Mr. Giordano Piccinotti, S.D.B., president of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See, as member of the Commission for Confidential Matters.

 

Appointment of consultors of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life

The Holy Father has appointed the following as consultors of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life: il Reverend Msgr. Simone Renna, under-secretary of the Dicastery for the Clergy; the Reverend Dario Vitali, professor in the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome; the Reverend Fathers Amedeo Cencini, F.d.C.C., psychologist and psychotherapist, and Justin Glyn, S.J., legal advisor of the Australian province of the Society of Jesus; the Reverend Sr. Mary Niluka Perera, R.B.P., coordinator of the Catholic Care for Children International Project of the International Union of Superiors General; the distinguished Ryan and Mary-Rose Verret, co-founders of Witness to Love; Dr. Maria Luisa Ceriotti, child neuropsychiatrist and psychotherapist; Dr. Julia M. Dezelski, deputy director of the Secretariat for the Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; and Dr. Chiara Griffini, member of the Presidential Council of the National Service for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults of the Italian Episcopal Conference.
