Resignation and appointment of apostolic administrator of the archeparchy of Ernakulam-Angamaly of the Syro-Malabars

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the office of apostolic administrator of the archeparchy of Ernakuam-Angamaly of the Syro-Malabars, India, presented by Archbishop Andrews Thazhath, metropolitan of Trichur of the Syro-Malabars.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Bosco Puthur, emeritus of the eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Melbourne of the Syro-Malabars, Australia, as apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same archeparchy.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Altamura-Gravina-Acquaviva delle Fonti, Italy, presented by Bishop Giovanni Ricchiuti.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Giuseppe Russo, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Taranto, parish priest of San Francesco d’Assisi in Martina Franca.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Giuseppe Russo was born on 12 July 1966 in San Giorgio Jonico, in the province and archdiocese of Taranto. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary, receiving a bachelor’s degree in theology. He is a member of the Institute of Servants of Suffering.

He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1995, and incardinated in the archdiocese of Taranto.

After ordination, he first held the role of parish vicar at Santissimi Angeli Custodi in Taranto (1995-2000). He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome (1996), and went on to serve as ecclesiastical assistant of Catholic Jurists (Taranto Section) (1998-2005); defender of the bond and promoter of justice of the diocesan ecclesiastical tribunal (1999-2005); and member of the Commission for the Liturgy and Sacred Art (2000-2005). He graduated in civil engineering from the University of Pisa (2005), and held the roles of head of the National Service for Buildings of Worship of the General Secretariat of the Italian Episcopal Conference (2005-2015); lecturer for the master’s course in architecture and arts for the liturgy at the Pontifical Saint Anselm Liturgical Institute (2010-2015); member of the jury for the European Award and the International Award for Religious Architecture instituted by the Frate Sole Institute (2009-2015); member of the Scientific Committee for the Observatory on Sacred Architecture of the Dies Domini Study Centre of Bologna (2011-2015); honorary architect (2014); under-secretary of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA) (2016-2022).
