Appointment of bishop of Mar del Plata, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José María Baliña, until now titular bishop of Teudoli and auxiliary of Buenos Aires, as bishop of the diocese of Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Baliña was born on 8 January 1959 in Buenos Aires.

After his formation in the Metropolitan Seminary of Buenos Aires, he was ordained a priest on 25 November 1989.

After several years as parish vicar and parish priest in various communities, he was appointed as titular bishop of Teudoli and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Buenos Aires on 16 January 2015, receiving episcopal ordination the following 28 February.

He is episcopal vicar of the Central Zone of the archdiocese of Buenos Aires and, within the Argentine Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Pastoral Council for the protection of minors and vulnerable adults.

 

Appointment of coadjutor bishop of Fréjus-Toulon, France

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop François Touvet of Châlons as coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, France.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop François Touvet was born on 13 May 1965 in Paris. He carried out his studies at the École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr, where he obtained the grade of Naval Officer.

He entered the seminary in Paray-le-Monial, and continued his ecclesiastical formation in Besançon and Lyon, receiving in 1992 a licentiate in theology from the Université Catholique de Lyon. He was ordained a priest on 28 June 1992 in Dijon, where he was incardinated.

He has held the following offices: pastoral vicar of Is-sur-Tille (1992-1993), adjunct deaon of Tilles and parish priest in solidum in Selongey (1993-1999), diocesan chaplain of the Mouvement eucharistique des Jeunes (1996-2004), parish priest of Montigny-sur-Aube (2002-2004), episcopal vicar of Dijon for the Seine et Tilles pastoral zone (2002-2004), vicar general of Dijon (2004-2010), parish priest of the Cathedral of Langres and dean of the city of Langres (2010-2014), military chaplain (2011-2014), episcopal vicar of Langres for the South pastoral zone (2012-2014), vicar general of Langres (2014-2015) and parish priest of Chaumont (2015).

On 23 December 2015 he was appointed bishop of Châlons, and on 28 February 2016 he received episcopal ordination. Within the Conference of Bishops of France he is chair of the Council for Communication. Since 25 June 2022 he is administrator of the Communauté du Verbe de Vie, a private association of the faithful.
